Ayo Lizer, the resident producer for Diamond Platnumz’s Wasafi Records, is the creative force behind Big Eye’s latest track, “Mikono Juu,” which has garnered over 300k views in just four days. The song’s music video, directed by Jahlive, has become the most-watched on Big Eye’s YouTube channel, surpassing videos that have been online for nine years. While some attribute the song’s popularity to Big Eye’s recent endorsement by singer-turned-politician Bobi Wine, it’s evident that the well-produced track, reminiscent of Congolese Lingala music, plays a significant role. The vintage-themed video adds to its charm.
Despite facing criticism for its lyrics, the song has received positive comments from diverse locations, showcasing its broad appeal. A comment on the YouTube video reads, “I am from Tanzania but already in love with this song.” Another comment highlights the rapid increase in views within 24 hours, emphasizing the song’s potential for a second chance. The fact that the song incorporates Kiswahili contributes to its widespread acceptance, even in Kenya.
Ayo Lizer, also known as Iraju Hamisi Mjege, has not only produced “Mikono Juu” but has also worked on other successful projects. He produced Azawi’s “Party Mood,” featured in her African Music album, with 2.8 million views on YouTube. Additionally, Lizer, under the alias Lizer Classic, recorded Vinka’s “Thank God,” the second most-watched video on her YouTube channel with 3.7 million views. Prior to joining Wasafi, Lizer had already made a mark in Tanzania, producing songs for notable artists like Mr. Blue, who collaborated with Navio on the track “Ayaya.”
Lizer’s journey to Wasafi took an interesting turn when Diamond Platnumz recognized his talent. Initially hesitant to leave Burundi, where he was thriving, Lizer eventually returned to Tanzania after political unrest in Burundi. Diamond Platnumz offered him a position in the studio he was planning to open, setting the stage for Lizer’s continued success in the music industry.Having agreed to join Wasafi Records, he commenced crafting music for all the artists affiliated with the label. His debut production was “Kwetu” by Rayvanny, a tremendous success. Subsequently, he went on to create numerous chart-topping hits, such as “Hallelujah,” “Kwangwaru,” “Jibebe,” and the entire album “A Boy from Tandale” for Diamond Platnumz.
