Bebe Cool, whose real name is Moses Ssali, was born on 1 September 1977. He is a reggae and ragga musician from Uganda. Bebe Cool began his music career around 1997 in Nairobi, Kenya, later returning to Uganda. He was associated with Ogopa DJs, a production house and record label in Kenya.
In his early life, Bebe Cool attended various schools, including Aga Khan Primary School, Kitante Hill School, and Makerere College School. He dropped out of school one year before completion. During high school, he studied Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics at Kololo Senior Secondary School.
Bebe Cool has achieved recognition in the music industry, winning the Artist of The Year Award at the HiPipo Music Awards three times and receiving accolades at the Pearl of Africa Music Awards. He has toured in the United Kingdom and the United States, collaborating with other artists and releasing solo albums. Bebe Cool also participated in a music battle with Nigerian artist D’banj in 2013.
In his personal life, Bebe Cool faced challenges, including an injury from a police shooting in January 2010 and a traumatic experience during the July 2010 Kampala attacks. He is married to Zuena Kirema, and in 2022, the couple celebrated 20 years of marriage.
Bebe Cool has engaged in philanthropic activities, performing at events like the Nelson Mandela 90th Birthday Tribute and supporting causes such as raising awareness against HIV/AIDS.
Politically, Bebe Cool supported Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni in the 2021 presidential elections.
Bebe Cool has won several awards, including those from the Pearl of Africa Music Awards and HiPipo Music Awards. Additionally, he was nominated for various international awards, such as the Kora Awards, MOBO Awards, and Afrimma Awards.
Philanthropy
In 2008, Bebe Cool performed for the Nelson Mandela 90th Birthday Tribute in Hyde Park, London. He was also appointed by Nelson Mandela as one of the 46664 African ambassadors. The 46664 campaign aims to raise awareness against HIV/AIDS and was initiated by the late Nelson Mandela.
On 3 August 2018, at a concert called The Golden Heart, Bebe Cool organized a fundraiser to sponsor five children with heart diseases, enabling them to receive medical treatment in India.
Political Life
Bebe Cool supported Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni in the 2021 presidential elections in Uganda.
