Vyper Ranking, an award-winning dancehall artist and songwriter, is characterized by his outspoken and humble nature, coupled with an abundance of talent.
Who is Vyper Ranking?
In the words of Vyper Ranking himself, he is a 21st-century phenomenon—a young individual from the ghetto who has risen to become the most celebrated dancehall and reggae artist of his generation. His music is recognized for its uniqueness, diversity, and incorporation of various styles. Affectionately known as “Riddim Killer” by fans due to his hardcore freestyle, Vyper Ranking is acclaimed for his exceptional ability to dominate any riddim with his impressive flows. The moniker “Vyper” derives from the venomous snake, “The Viper,” symbolizing the perceived danger in his lyrics and voice. The name “Ranking” pays homage to Jamaican dancehall artist Shaba Ranking, Vyper’s favorite artist and a significant influence. His musical repertoire primarily features dancehall and reggae genres, with inspirational figures like Peter Mile, Cindy Sanyu, and Kid Fox from Uganda playing a crucial role in his artistic development. Bantu Events Africa is the record label to which Vyper Ranking is signed.
Born Ayire Sadam on June 16, 1994, in Kireka, Kampala, Vyper Ranking grew up in a ghetto in one of Kampala’s suburbs. His father, Mohamad Lomong, hailed from Karamoja in northern Uganda and worked as a businessman, while his mother, Rehma Naigaga, was a housewife. As the fifth child among eight siblings, Vyper Ranking attended Kamuli CU for primary education and Bweyogerere for secondary and high school education. Coming from a modest family, Vyper Ranking’s love for music blossomed from a young age, drawing inspiration from Jamaican dancehall and reggae artists.
Career in Music
Vyper Ranking commenced his music career in Uganda in 2017, with his debut single “SOMA” gaining significant popularity. Subsequent releases, including “Tobatya” and “Ekyenge” in 2018, solidified his position in the local music scene. By the end of 2018, Vyper Ranking had established himself as one of Uganda’s premier dancehall artists.
In 2019, Vyper Ranking collaborated with Cindy Sanyu on the song “Tebimala,” considered by many as one of his standout works. Further releases like “Kiriza” and its remix with “A Pass” continued to garner attention and expand his fan base.
Vyper Ranking’s latest offering, “Yelyamu,” is a hard dancehall track accompanied by a fully animated video. As a testament to his talent, he received the Best Dancehall Artist award at the 2017 WMC Next Generation Awards.
Performances on Prominent Stages
Vyper Ranking has graced the stages of major Ugandan concerts and events, including Purple Party and Blankets and Wine. Expressing his aspirations, he now aims to take his dancehall and reggae music to an international audience.
