Omulangira Emmanuel Suuna, popularly known as OS, is a versatile Ugandan musician, songwriter, producer, and accomplished instrumentalist, recognized for his multifaceted contributions to the music industry.
Formerly identified as Abdul Shakul during his conversion to Islam, OS gained prominence as the producer behind the hit track “Nakudata,” which propelled the late Mowzey Radio & Weasel of the Goodlyfe Crew to stardom. Additionally, he has written and produced several singles of his own, including “Lwaki Onumya,” “Ngamba,” and “Zuena.”
As the founder of White House Entertainment, a notable music label, OS has solidified his position as a key figure in the industry. Despite his success, he remains down-to-earth, with a fondness for tea inherited from his father, and notably refrains from smoking and drug use.
An embarrassing moment for OS occurred when he forgot to zip up his trousers before taking the stage to present music at Mayor’s Garden in Jinja City.
Born on December 25, 1982, in Misigi village, Singo, Mityana District, Uganda, Omulangira Emmanuel Suuna grew up in Mbirizi village, Masaka District, now part of Masaka City. He completed his primary education at schools in Masaka District, namely Mbirizi Primary School and Kyamaganda Demonstration School, before attending Kasasa Secondary School up to senior three.
After running away from school during senior three, OS experienced discipline from his father, who administered 80 strokes with a cane upon his return. Subsequently, he resumed his studies, completing senior four at Nakyenyi Senior Secondary School in Mbirizi, Masaka City, achieving a remarkable first-grade result despite a 12-year gap in examinations. His academic prowess was evident, with only two students receiving first grades at his school that year.
However, at the age of 18, OS decided to forego his education during senior five at Kinoni Parents Schools and pursued a career in music, much to the disappointment of his parents, who were unaware of his decision. This led him to relocate to Kampala to pursue his musical ambitions.
OS began his musical journey at 18, while in senior five in 2004, initially under the management of Omulangira Ndausi, a member of Radio Simba’s Fanda Family music group. Before joining Ndausi, OS performed with various bands, including Friends Band owned by Tom Ssengendo, and later the Betty Kagimu Band led by Betty Kagimu.
During his early career, OS produced his first hit song, “Joana,” at Dream Studios. He was also managed by Pherrie Kim, who later became his partner, and together they have a son.
Despite early success, OS faced challenges after his marriage to Aisha due to conflicting Islamic beliefs discouraging music. This led to financial difficulties, including sleeping in his car and surviving on porridge for days. However, a turning point came when his sister from Dubai offered him financial assistance after five years of no contact, prompting him to reconcile with his family and revive his music career.
OS boasts an extensive discography, including popular tracks like “Balaba Makooti,” “Siyenkomelero,” “Love Yo,” “Kampala,” “Tweefeko,” and “Deeply,” among others.
Beyond music, OS has pursued various endeavors, including motorcycle rallying, brewing local alcohol, and working as a barber. However, he faced controversy after allegations spread by Ugandan bloggers regarding his property ownership, leading to legal action against those spreading false information.
Presently single, OS has a 16-year-old son named Wasswa from a previous relationship and is in a relationship with another woman, intending to introduce her to the public soon. He enjoys cooking, with a particular talent for preparing delicious steamed fish.
