In 2011, Maro inked a deal with Former Westend Entertainment, managed by Aziz Azion. He introduced himself to the music scene with his debut single “Sulabulungi” (“Good Night”), which resonated strongly with female listeners. This was followed by his Lusoga hit “Biweewo,” conveying a message of overcoming life’s challenges through prayer to strengthen relationships, hailed as one of the most heartwarming Zouk and Lusoga tracks of its time.
In January 2012, Maro parted ways with Westend Entertainment and collaborated memorably with Mya from the esteemed women’s singing group, Blu*3, on the track “Baibe.” This collaboration catapulted his fame, leading him to establish his own record label, Vocal Police Entertainment, the same month.
Joining Vocal Police Ent, Maro experienced further success with his hit single “Genda ewamwe,” opening doors to numerous opportunities, which he continues to capitalize on.
In 2013, Maro had a prolific year, releasing several noteworthy tracks. He dropped the single “Musaayi” and collaborated with Gravity on “Why,” alongside releasing “Omuweesi.” Additionally, he organized his inaugural concert, “THE MARO LIVE CONCERT,” on September 14th at Freedom City rooftop, followed by another show at the Crested Crane Hotel in Jinja.
This proved to be a significant year for Maro, earning a nomination at the Buzz Teen’s Awards and clinching the Best Collaboration of the Year award at the inaugural Club Music Video Awards on September 20th, 2013, for “Why” featuring Gravity.
As the year drew to a close, Maro released another single titled “Risingstar,” showcasing his personal journey, accolades, and performances, aiming to inspire aspiring artists. The song was previewed by the esteemed Top Ten Naija Blog for several weeks.
Maro’s achievements extended beyond awards; he was named Artist of the Year twice, in 2013 and 2014, at the Eastern High School Awards.
After the success of his main concert, Maro returned to his hometown, performing at the Crested Crane Hotel gardens once more, attracting an even larger crowd in 2015 compared to the previous year.
In 2015, Maro marked the completion of his studies, graduating from Makerere University Kampala on January 21st with a bachelor’s degree in Development Studies.
Following his graduation, Maro released his debut single and music video “Emberazo” (Your Ways), advocating for treating others with kindness. The video gained widespread attention, airing across borders, including on the Kenya Mseto East Africa show on Citizen TV.
