John Blaq has expressed that if he weren’t pursuing a career in music, he would venture into running a store specializing in items such as cars, gadgets, and various electrical appliances.
Early Life and Education
Born on July 16, 1996, in the Jinja district of Uganda, John Blaq, whose real name is John Kasadha, hails from the Musoga community. Raised by his aunt in Bweyogerere, near Kampala, due to financial constraints faced by his parents, John Blaq’s educational journey began with his aunt’s support. He attended Lwanda Primary School and Hassan Tourabi Primary School before proceeding to Bweyogerere Secondary School for both his O-Level and A-Level education.
Despite facing challenges, including financial difficulties and sometimes going to bed hungry, John Blaq remained resilient in pursuit of his education and passion for music.
Music Career
John Blaq’s entry into the music scene occurred during his high school years, where he engaged in rap battles and showcased his talent. Although primarily a rapper, he chose not to focus on hip-hop due to its perceived limited success and profitability in Uganda. Opting for a blend of dancehall and raga, he recorded his first song, “More Fire,” at Buddies studio with renowned Ugandan producer Andy Music. His second hit, “Tukwatagane,” further solidified his presence in the Ugandan music scene.
Aya Baasi became John Blaq’s trademark catchphrase, symbolizing a start button that he incorporated before recording each song. Drawing inspiration from the late Mowzey Radio and admiring international artists like Burna Boy, John Blaq’s mature lyrics and unique style contributed to his success.
