Early Life and Education:
Born on June 1, 1982, in what was then the Masaka District (now Kalungu District), Evelyn Nakabira faced the loss of her parents at a young age. Raised by her aunt, a midwife, and her husband in Mityana, she attended Aga Khan, Mityana SS, and Pride SS Mityana for O’ Level education. Later, she completed her A’ Levels at St. Peter’s Busubizi in 1999.
Musical Career:
Evelyn Lagu initiated her musical journey 18 years ago, beginning with singing in a church choir alongside her father. Extending her passion to school, she actively participated in MDD shows, honing her musical talents.
A pivotal moment in her career came in 2015 when she participated in the Airtel Trace challenge, securing the second position and marking the beginning of her ascent in the music industry.
Health Challenges and Spiritual Transformation:
Evelyn Nakabira Lagu faced health complications related to her kidneys, necessitating the urgent need for a transplant. In mid-2020, she underwent a spiritual transformation, turning to gospel music as an expression of gratitude to God for saving her life.
Her first gospel track, “Testimony,” marked a significant shift in her musical direction. Following her stay at Nakasero Hospital, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni personally facilitated her medical care, thanks to the efforts of Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, an events organizer.
Family and Personal Life:
Evelyn Lagu is a proud mother to Marvin Mulumba, who achieved an impressive Division One in the 2019 O’ Level exams. Despite being unmarried at present, she was previously married to Tony Lagu, a South Sudanese tycoon residing in Juba. The marriage ended, reportedly due to issues of infidelity.
