Eddy Yawe, a multifaceted individual from Uganda, is renowned as an artist, producer, songwriter, business owner, and politician. Born on May 11, 1973, in Kanoni Gomba, Eddy Yawe is the brother of Bobi Wine, a musician turned politician. He is part of the family of Mr. Gerald Sentamu, with 34 children, and Eddy Yawe being the fourth child born to his mother.
Education and Early Life:
Eddy Yawe’s educational journey began at Kanoni Primary School, followed by St. Henry’s College Kitovu for his secondary education. He furthered his studies on a scholarship in the Netherlands, earning a master’s degree in radio and TV in 2000. Subsequently, he pursued sound engineering at Morgan University in the United States, where he interned in Hollywood.
Career in Music:
Eddy Yawe’s musical journey started in his childhood, influenced by his mother who encouraged him to sing church hymns. Acquiring a guitar as a reward for academic excellence, he formed the band Dimension 2000 with Phiobe Nassolo and Betty Mpolongoma. In the 1990s, they collaborated with artists like Ronald Mayinja and Geoffrey Lutaya.
After recording his first song, “Nentale,” Eddy Yawe moved to the Netherlands and released his first album, “Pamela.” Following a move to the United States, he established Dream Studio in Nashville, Tennessee, and later relocated it to Kamwokya, Uganda, in 2003. The studio revolutionized Ugandan music, shaping the sound and producing hit singles, especially for Bobi Wine.
Eddy Yawe also formed the girl group Dreamgirls, whose song “Weekend” gained popularity. He was part of Uganda’s oldest band, Afrigo Band, before pursuing a solo career.
Political Engagement:
Eddy Yawe’s involvement in politics dates back to his childhood, influenced by his father and grandfather’s support for the Democratic Party during the 1980 elections. In 2006, he actively campaigned for a DP candidate, Erias Lukwago, and even composed a campaign song.
In 2011, Eddy Yawe entered politics by running for the Member of Parliament seat in Kampala Central on an NRM card. Subsequently, he contested the seat in Kiira municipality in 2016 but faced defeat. His political journey is marked by a shift to Kira municipality in 2021 as an independent candidate.

Controversy arose after the release of his hit song “Tukigale,” featuring Carol Nantogo, leading to disputes with Nantogo’s management. Allegations of a romantic involvement with Carol and subsequent disputes over song rights ensued, with Eddy Yawe reportedly collaborating with Rachel Namiiro of the Nu Eagles.
