In 2015, Evans collaborated with fellow musician Rema Namakula on the popular track “Linda,” which continues to be celebrated for its timeless appeal in Uganda.
Despite his unassuming and easygoing demeanor, Chris Evans’ life and career have not been without controversies. The most notable incident involved him claiming to be attacked by thugs with a hammer, a statement met with skepticism and disbelief among most Ugandans. Known for his proficiency in rumba music, also referred to as “Band music,” Chris Evans is recognized as one of the top recording artists in this genre.
Early Life and Education:
Born in 1987 as Christopher Evans Kaweesi to Jane Nabwami, a housewife, and Christopher Kakooza, a builder, Chris faced challenges early in life. His father, a church singer at Busawula church in Uganda, passed away when Chris was 13, and his mother followed suit when he was 14. Struggling to pay for his education, Chris worked various odd jobs on construction sites to fund his elementary and middle school education.
Middle school brought a turning point when the headteacher of Masooli SS, named Kakulira at the time, offered to sponsor Chris’s education. Excelling in his O-level exams with a perfect score of 14 points in eight subjects, he proceeded to St. Mary’s school boarding secondary school, Kitende, for his A-levels, focusing on physics, chemistry, biology, and math as a minor subject.
Post-high school, Chris Evans attended Makerere University, where the government supported his education in agriculture, culminating in a second-class upper degree.
Musical Journey:
Chris’s love for singing originated from his late father, who was a church singer at Busawuula. Beginning his music career in 2007, his first single, “Rihana,” released in 2009, was produced by Mozart studios, marking his entry into the industry. Although “Rihana” didn’t propel him far, his 2010 release, “Ndikusasula ki,” produced by David, became a major hit across Uganda.
The success of “Ndikusasula ki” facilitated his first successful concert in 2011, sparking controversy due to its scheduling on the same day as Chameleon’s concert. Chris Evans continued to make waves with collaborations, including the 2015 hit “Linda” with Rema Namakula.
Personal Life:
Chris Evans is known for maintaining a private life, with details of his relationships becoming public only on certain occasions. Notably, his breakup with a local actress in 2014 drew attention, and subsequent relationships remained guarded, with occasional rumors circulating about his personal life.
Controversy:
In a notable incident on May 7, 2018, Chris Evans reported being attacked by thugs in the Lungujja Rubaga division, claiming they hit him on the head with a hammer and stole his car. While his manager and the police supported the claim, skepticism from the public triggered a widespread discussion on the incident.
