Singer Big Eye found himself in a surreal moment on Friday, as his much-desired opportunity to regain the favor of opposition leader and music icon Bobi Wine finally materialized. Overwhelmed by a grand procession of fans escorting him back from Makerere Kavule, where he was re-embraced into the cause by Bobi Wine himself, the singer was speechless.
While standing atop his car, amidst a chorus of supporters chanting his name, he humbly expressed, “I’m at a loss for words… perhaps I need a moment to collect my thoughts.”
Earlier, at the official opening of the opposition NUP offices on Bombo Road, Bobi Wine acknowledged Big Eye’s presence, emphasizing the importance of embracing all individuals, even those previously seen as adversaries.
Bobi Wine stated, “Anyone opposing the forces of change is the primary adversary. Yet, if they have a change of heart, we must welcome them with open arms.”
Addressing Big Eye directly, he said, “My brother Big Eye, I extend a warm welcome. This is our nation, and as a youthful population, we possess enormous potential.”
The crowd erupted in jubilation as Big Eye ascended the stage to shake hands with Bobi Wine. Subsequently, Bobi Wine exchanged Big Eye’s black beret for a red NUP one, prompting ecstatic cheers. This symbolic act suggested reconciliation between the Ghetto president and the artist, who had actively campaigned against him during the 2021 elections.
Big Eye had fervently supported the ruling NRM party during the elections, performing at their rallies and promoting their messages on social media. However, his allegiance shift after the election due to backlash from his fan base. He was often rejected from performing at music shows and faced considerable disapproval.
Months ago, he announced his disassociation from the ruling party, a move positively embraced by his fans. In September, he expressed, “I’ve truly missed this love.”
He now anticipates that Bobi Wine’s recent endorsement will mark his complete redemption and signify his return to the music scene.
