Aziz Azion, born Aziz Mukisa in 1984 in the town of Fort Portal in western Uganda, initially embarked on his music journey as a backup instrumentalist. He honed his skills as a solo guitarist, supporting various Ugandan artists before transitioning into singing in 2005, debuting with his first single “Monday.” This release marked the beginning of a string of hits, but it was his breakout track “Nkumila Omukwano” that catapulted him to fame in the Ugandan music scene.
Raised in Kampala City, Aziz Azion pursued his education up to Senior 4 before fully immersing himself in the music industry. He began by learning guitar at a music training school, eventually joining Paul Kafeero’s Kulabako guitar singers in 2001 as a guitarist. Subsequently, he collaborated with notable productions such as Diamonds Production and The Eagles Production, alongside renowned artists like Geoffrey Lutaaya and Ronald Mayinja.
Aziz Azion’s musical journey saw him co-founding the Jeckaki Band with friends like Cliff Mutebi and Richard Jemba, performing as backup instrumentalists for various artists. Their international debut came in 2005 during Jose Chameleon’s European tour, followed by performances alongside Emperor Orlando and Ragga Dee.
Since the success of “Nkumira Omukwano” in 2008, Aziz Azion has established himself as a prominent figure in Ugandan music. His subsequent hits, including “Yegwe,” “Nzikiriza,” and “Wampisa,” have garnered significant attention, particularly on radio stations like Capital FM.
In addition to his musical achievements, Aziz Azion has ventured into video production, with tracks like “Kano Koze,” “Cheza Dada,” and “Sirina Mulala” complementing his discography. He continues to captivate audiences with his distinctive vocal prowess, earning him a well-deserved reputation as a standout star in the Ugandan music industry.
