Irene Ntale made her breakthrough in the music industry when she signed with the Ugandan record label Swangz Avenue. Notable songs like “Stay with Me,” “Gyobela,” “Bikoola,” and others contributed to her rise as one of Uganda’s prominent musicians.
Born in 1989 at Mengo Hospital, Irene Ntale grew up in Ntinda but hails from Masaka. The only girl in her family, Ntale faced challenges fitting in with male relatives since she didn’t grow up with her father. She attended Kitante Primary School and later Kitante Secondary School for O level. After O level, she pursued A level at Makerere High (now Migadde College) before obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in procurement and logistics from Kyambogo University.
Her journey in music began in a church choir at Bukoto’s Victory City church, where she formed a small band with friends. Ntale, who learned various instruments, focused on the guitar. She started as a studio backup singer at Fenon Records and performed regularly at Emin Pasha Hotel. Swangz Avenue noticed her talent in 2013, signing her up after the tragic death of their first artist, Sera.
Under Swangz Avenue, Ntale collaborated with songwriter Zulanda, producing hits like “Stay with Me.” Her popularity grew with the reggae song “Love Letter,” featuring Bebe Cool. The song “Gyobela” further elevated her status.
In 2017, she collaborated with Radio and Weasel on “Bikoola” before leaving Swangz Avenue. Subsequently, Irene Ntale signed with Universal Music Group in Nigeria in August 2019, marking a significant milestone in her career. Her first single under the label, “Nyamba,” showcased her musical prowess.
Ntale’s achievements include winning Best Female Breakthrough Artist at the 2013 Hipipo Music Awards, Best Female Artist at the 2014 and 2015 Buzz Teeniez Awards, and several nominations and recognitions in subsequent years.
Her discography boasts popular songs like “Gukuba,” “Kabugo,” “Nyamba,” “Olindaba,” “Gwe Aliko,” “Stamina Daddy,” “Gyobera,” and “No Matter What,” among others.
Irene Ntale’s musical journey also involved collaborations with artists like Radio and Weasel, Bebe Cool, Mr Eazi, and Ray Signature, who was rumored to be her boyfriend.
Irene Ntale remains single and has not been married or had children, although she has been romantically linked to several city men.
Regarding controversies, Irene Ntale departed from Swangz Avenue in early 2017, and the reasons for her exit are unclear. Speculation emerged that she left because her manager, Vinka, had been hired by Swangz to pursue a singing career as well. Some insiders suggest that Ntale viewed Vinka as a new competitor, leading to a rift between them, ultimately resulting in Ntale’s departure from the label.
Subsequently, Irene Ntale expressed her grievances with her former bosses on Twitter. Critics in the music industry argue that her decision to leave Swangz Avenue may have impacted her popularity as a diva.
Following Ntale’s departure, her sister Sandra, who also served as her manager, assumed control of the label.
During the peak of her music career, Irene Ntale faced accusations of being associated with the Illuminati and being involved in the alleged killing of her aunts for fame. Ntale vehemently denied these claims and even offered a reward of $5 million to anyone providing evidence supporting the allegations.
Rumors also circulated about Ntale dating fellow musician Ray Signature, but she publicly refuted these claims.
Critics have also accused Irene Ntale of excessive drinking and getting drunk, asserting that it has negatively impacted her music and performances.
