Veronica Lugya, widely recognized by her stage name Vinka, is a Ugandan artist proficient in music, dance, singing, and songwriting. Affiliated with Swangz Avenue and Sony Music Entertainment, she was born in 1994 to Mr. and Mrs. Lugya. Vinka spent her formative years in Kazo with her father and later moved to Bweyogerere to live with her mother during her fifth year of primary school.
Her educational journey included attending Hormisdalen Primary School in Kamwokya for private school education, followed by Rubaga Girls’ School for O’ and A’ level studies. Eventually, Vinka enrolled at Makerere University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Tourism and Hospitality in 2017.
Vinka initially entered the entertainment scene as a professional dancer, collaborating with prominent figures such as Jackie Chandiru, Sera, Maurice Kirya, and Cindy Sanyu. She then took on artist management responsibilities at Swangz Avenue, initially serving as Irene Ntale’s manager. Her transition to a music career began in 2015 when her boss suggested she try making music. In 2016, she shifted her focus entirely to music, releasing her debut single “Level” and subsequent tracks like “Stylo” featuring Irene Ntale and “Malaika.”
Her discography expanded with releases such as “Chips Na Ketchup,” “Overdose” featuring Voltage Music, “Love Panic,” “By the Way,” “Omukwano Guno,” “Sure,” “Oluyimba Lwomwaka,” and “Bebe” featuring Inna. In 2019, Vinka secured a distribution deal with Sony Music Entertainment and collaborated with Romanian singer Inna on the song “Bebe,” digitally released by Global Records.
Amid her successful career, Vinka encountered controversy when she kicked a fan attempting to touch her during a performance in South Sudan. On a personal note, she welcomed a baby girl on January 10, 2021, with her fiancé, Witta Nelson, a businessman and politician from Isingiro District.
